POWER Library is offered as a service of Pennsylvania's public libraries, school libraries and the State Library.

POWER Library allows you to access thousands of full text periodical articles, newspapers, a major encyclopedia, plus photographs, pictures, charts, maps, reference materials for young people and more! You will find materials of interest in most subject areas for all age groups from young children to adults.

POWER Library can be accessed by visiting the public library or school library, or even from the comfort of your home! All you need is your library card with a barcode number and you can begin researching now!

Here are a list of the database names and what they offer from POWER Library:

Access Pennsylvania Database: Catalog holdings of almost 3,000 Pennsylvania school, public, academic and special libraries are included in this database. Search by author, title, subject or keywords to locate over 50 million items.

AP Multimedia Archive: More than 500,000 current and historical photographs and graphics can be searched by date, place and subject. More than 800 photographs are added to the archive daily.

Brodart Automation's DartClix: Collection of over 18,000 professionally selected and cataloged, high-quality websites designed to enhance curriculum support in schools and patron research in public and academic library. The DartClix records containing multiple fields are loaded into the Access PA Database where they may be searched, and then link users to the websites.

EBSCO - Book Collection: Nonfiction: A research database containing full text and abstracts for 1000 popular nonfiction books. Full text articles on literature, social studies, history and science are available and career, health, sports, adventure and technology information is also available.

EBSCO - Business Source Premier: Provides full text articles from general business magazines, trade publications, business journals and business publications with an international scope. Some titles start as far back as 1985 and more than 200 journals have PDF full text materials back to 1965 or first issue published. Over 10,000 company profiles are included. Topics include accounting, management, marketing, economics, finance, international business and more.

EBSCO - Clinical Pharmacology: Provides information for all U.S. prescription drugs, herbal and nutritional supplements, over-the-counter products and new and investigational drugs.

EBSCO - Consumer Health Complete (CHC): Consumer Health Complete (CHC) is an interface designed for the everyday consumer of health care information. CHC provides convenient access to easily understandable health and medical information. Consumers can search and browse within medical encylclopedias, popular reference books, and magazine articles.

EBSCO - EBSCO Animals: Find in-depth information including the nature and habitat of familiar animals. Indexes, abstracts and full text formats are available. This database is designed for children't interest in the world of animals.

EBSCO - EBSCOhost: Click on this link to access all the EBSCOhost databases.

EBSCO - ERIC: The Educational Resource Information Center (ERIC) provides full text of 2,200 digests in addition to citations and abstracts from over 980 education or education-related journals.

EBSCO - Funk & Wagnall's New World Enyclopedia: Over 25,000 encyclopedia entries are provided.

EBSCO - Health Source Plus: Consumer Edition: Search for information on medicine, food and nutrition, childcare, sports medicine and general health. Over 200 general health publications and more than 190 journals can be searched, including Consumer Reports on Health and Men's Health.

EBSCO - Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition: Full text articles from nearly 600 medical journals are provided. Abstracts and indexing is available from nearly 850 medical journals.

EBSCO - History Reference Center: Features cover-to-cover full text for more than 750 historical encyclopedias and other non-fiction books, full text for nearly 60 leading history periodicals, 58,000 historical documents, 43,000 biographies of historical figures, more than 12,000 historical photos and maps and 87 hours of historical film and video.

EBSCO - LISTA (Library, Information Science & Technology Abstracts): A world-class bibliographic database that provides coverage on subjects such as librarianship, classification, cataloging, bibliometrics, online information retrieval, information management and more. LISTA indexes moer than 600 periodicals plus books, research reports and proceedings. With coverage dating back to the mid-1960s, it is the oldest continuously produced database covering the field of information science.

EBSCO - MAS Ultra - School Edition: The MAS Ultra - School Edition database, designed specifically for high school libraries, provides full text from more than 550 popular general interest and currect events publications covering general reference, health, science, and other areas, with information dating as far back as 1975 for key magazines. In addition to the full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for nearly 650 titles.

EBSCO - MasterFILE Premier: Covering virtually every general interest subject area, this databse provides full text information dating as far back as 1975. Reference books, biographies, primary source documents, and a collection of photos, maps and flags are available.

EBSCO - Middle Search Plus: Suggested for middle and junior high research, full text information is available from more tan 150 magazines, some from as far back as 1990. All articles are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexile).

EBSCO - Newspaper Source: Selected full text articles are available from over 180 regional U.S. newspapers, international newspapers, newswires, newspaper columns and other sources. Indexing and abstracts are available for national newspapers.

EBSCO - Primary Search: Suggested for elementary school research, full text information is available from more than 60 magazines - some from as far back as 1990. All articles are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexile).

EBSCO - Professional Development Collection: Designed for professional educators, 550 full text journals are included in the collection.

EBSCO - Regional Business News: Provides comprehensive full text coverage for regional business publications. Regional Business News incorporates coverage of 75 business journals, newspapers and newires from all metropolitan and rural areas within the United States.

EBSCO - Teacher Reference Center (TRC): This index contains over 260 titles from the most popular teacher and administrator trade journals, periodicals and books. This database provides coverage on key education topics such as Assessment, Continuing Educations, Current Pedagogical Research, Curriculum Development, Instructional Media, Language Arts, Literacy Standards, Science & Mathematics and more.

EBSCO - Auto Repair Reference Center: Supplied by Point 5 Technologies with complete automotive repair information supplied by Nichols Publishing, publisher of Chilton information. Most major manufacturers of domestic and imported vehicles are listed. Repair information is available for most manufacturers as far back as 1954.

EBSCO - Book Index with Reviews: Provides information on over 3.8 million book titles in a wide range of formats, including large print, books on tape, etc. Fiction and non-fiction titles are included in the database, in all genres. The product contains over 800,000 full text searchable reviews from Library Journal, School Library Journal, Publishers Weekly, CHOICE, and others.

EBSCO - Business Searching Interface: The Business Searching Interface (BSI) is EBSCO's highly focused used interface created especially for the business searcher. BSI provides an easy way to both browse and search for country economic data, company profiles, industry information and market research.

EBSCO - Kids Search (K-5): Kids Search is EBSCO's interface for students in grades K through 5. Kids Search provides elementary school students with an easy-to-use, graphically-appealing interface they can use to search their EBSCO databases. The interface facilitates searching by topic, enabling users to easily enter keywords, or select topics or subtopics to search, from the Basic Search screen.

EBSCO - NextReads: A readers' advisory newsletter service providing monthly and bimonthly lists for library patrons, including both fiction and nonfiction genre coverage, plus two lists created just for library staff. Customers subscribing from the POWER Library or Access PA web sites will see Access PA branding. Libraries may also purchase a discounted and customizable version which will contain their library's branding and is easily customizable to the library's needs, holdings, and customer tastes.

EBSCO - NoveList: Includes fiction authors, titles and themes. Provides suggestions of books that are similar to those of a particular author or a certain title. Expand your reading horizons with NoveList. Librarians can use this database as a readers' advisory service to assit patrons who enjoy fiction. Teachers can use this resource for enhancement or curriculum.

EBSCO - NoveList K-8: Information about more than 38,000 fiction titles of interest to students in grades K-8. Full text reviews from professional journals and book talks for selected titles are available in this database. A good resource to expand student reading interest by introducing new authors or additional books in a subject area.

EBSCO - Searchasaurus: Suggested for children, this resource includes an encyclopedia, an encyclopedia of animals, magazine searches for primary and middle school grade levels, a dictionary, photos, maps and flags. A good homework resource.

EBSCO - Student Research Center (6-12): The Student Research Center (SRC) is EBSCO's interface designed for students in grades 6 through 12. SRC provides students in secondary schools with the mmost appropriate research tools to easily obtain the information that they need from their EBSCO databases. Students can easily pre-determine which content sources (e.g., Magazines, Newspapers, Biographies, Country Reports, Film & Video) will be included with their search. They can also search their databases by topic heading, make use of an online dictionary and encyclopedia, explore the top searches of the day, and even limit their search according to appropriate Lexile reading levels.

Facts on File News Services - Facts For Learning: The Elementary School Module teaches younger students how to ask questions, use core reference resources, understand indexes, choose research topics, search online, and read charts and graphs. The Middle School Module provides content written for students in grades 5-8 and is designed for students able to use a more sophisticated format.

Grove Art Online: Provides access to the complete text of the 34-volume Dictionary of Art. Newly-commissioned articles and links to images from galleries and museums from around the world are included.

Grove Music Online: Provides access to the complete text of the 29-volume New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians and the New Grove Dictionaries of Opera and Jazz. Links are available to musical sites on the Internet; some examples use Sibelius (music notation software).

HW Wilson - Biography Reference Bank: Links to biographical articles on over 470,000 individuals. Full text articles, abstracts and photographs are available from periodicals, feature articles, interviews, essays, performance reviews, speeches and obituaries.

netLibrary: Electronic books (eBooks) are available through this link. netLibrary eBooks are full text searchable and available for use on personal computers in online formats.

Oxford University Press - Oxford Reference Online: Provides information on many subjects including general reference, language and quotations, science and medicine, humanities and social sciences, business and professions. Bilingual dictionaries provided in English/French, English/German, English/Spanish, and English/Italian.

SIRS Discoverer: Includes full text articles and images from over 1,600 domestic and international newspapers, magazines and government documents. Articles are assigned a reading level - Easy, Moderate or Challenging - based on age-appropriateness, educational content, interest and reading level. This database is an excellent student resouce.

Thomson Gale - Contemporary Authors: A guide to current writers of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, journalism, drama, motion pictures and television. Biographies of these authors are included.

Thomson Gale - LitFinder: Search for full text poems, citations and excerpts using Poem Finder. Poet biographies, a Kids' Korner, and the Year's Best Poetry are included. Story Finder provides thousands of full text short stories with explanations, biographies and more. Use Essay Finder to locate full text essays and discursive writing based on books published in the 20th century. The essays focus on humanities and social sciences and include biographies and literary criticisms.

wired.MD - streaMed Patient Portal: The streaMed Patient Portal patient education and health information solution is a comprehensive video, handout, animation, and website database for consumer health information. Version 4.1 includes 365 multimedia videos, 1,385 associated text handouts, as well as numerous anatomical animations and peer-reviewed health websites. The database includes consumer health and patient education videos that present important information regarding the most common health conditions, diagnoses, procedures, and treatments you may encounter in an educational and entertaining video format.

WebFeat Search Prisim Federated Search Engine: WebFeat is compatible with all major standards but is not restricted to standards-based databases and APIs. It presents full text results within their true native interfaces. All native functions are fully available, including clustered, date, title and relevancy. WebFeat transparently searches pre-selected thesauri, suggesting alternate search terms, which can be executed with a mouse-click. Uses can save WebFeat results in a variety of formats, and can export to bibliographic management packages like ProCite, EndNote and RefWorks. It is compatible with all major OpenURL link resolvers, and OpenURL links may be embedded within WebFeat results citations, enabling users to easily find e-articles with a mouse click.
