Chartiers-Houston Community Library is a Project Linus Drop-Off Location
How Project Linus Began:
An article appears in Parade Magazine entitled "Joy to the World" by Pulitzer Prize winning photo-journalist, Eddie Adams. Part of the article features a petite, downy haired child. She had been going through intensive chemotherapy and states that her security blanket has helped her get through treatments. Karen Loucks decided to provide homemade security blankets to Denver's Rocky Mountain Children's Cancer Center. Project Linus is born.
Blanket Specifications:
Types: Blankets may be quilted, tied, knitted, crocheted or made of fleece. They must be new, handmade, and washable. Elaborate or simple, they are all beautiful to a child.
Sizes: Project Linus accepts blankets from 36"x36: to twin size. We donate to children and infants through teen years.
Donations: Monetary donations may be sent to Project Linus National Headquarters, P.O. Box 5621, Bloomington, IL 61702-5621. Make checks payable to "Project Linus." Please mention Alle-Kiski/Westmoreland Co, PA Chapter in the memo portion of your check.
How You Can Help:
-
Make a blanket and donate it to your local Chapter of Project Linus. They will take it to a facility where it will be given to a deserving child.
-
Get your community involved. Scouts, schools, religious organizations, senior centers, sewing guilds, and craft shops are all excellent places to find potential blanketeers. Tell them about Project Linus!
-
For more information, visit Project Linus H.Q.'s website. Anyone, any age, can help these children. It's within your power to make a difference!
